Art's Display Case

My first exposure to the exhibition world began senior year when professional printmaking artists Mike Houston and Martin Mazorra came over from NYC to collaborate with a selected bunch of Maui's high school students. Under the instruction and inspiration of Cannonball Press artists we put together a black n' white cryptoid print exhibition under two weeks time. After four days of carving two different woodblock images, three days of printing, and one for hanging the prints, we had our show.

As I watched my family, friends, teachers, and peers circulate around the room I
noticed that people were paying attention. Everyone was soaking up the unique details of each individual's art work. Observing people interact with art made me realize the power behind the display of artwork. Art engages people. It visually catches their attention, draws them, entices their curiosity, and prompts the viewer to converse with the artist about it's meaning.

Art's display case cultivates the power to impact an audience.
